In fact, in Ming and Qing literature we find an unprecedented amount of material concerning homosexuality. However, about half of the tales were written during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The collection includes literary and historical sources that span two thousand years, from pre-imperial times to the last century. We know nothing about its compiler except for his pseudonym: Ameng of Wu. "The Cut Sleeve" is an anthology of fifty-one male homoerotic tales which was probably compiled during the second half of the last century.
